V-Fold Pop-up Cards Make Eye-Catching Bound-In Inserts

Quirky bound-in inserts aren't always a straight forward, but with some forethought they are possible and create a much more dramatic impact. We are often asked if we can mount a V-fold Pop-up Card directly into a magazine. In certain rare instances it can be done but by far the best way to do it is to use V-fold Pop-up Cards as bound-in inserts. By making one edge of the card an extra few millimetres longer, the cards will bind-in to a perfect bound magazine or they can be totally redesigned to work as bound-in inserts in magazines with spine stitching. Other products that can also work in a similar way are the Starburst and Parallelogram pop up.

Magazines Open Naturally At Bound-In Inserts

Bound in inserts stop magazine readers in their tracks. As readers of beauty magazines will tell you, magazines open almost automatically at pages that feature bound-in inserts. Manufacturers of perfumes and cosmetics have been using bound-in pages for years to carry their ads and samples. It brings instant focus to your bound-in insert so it makes very good sense to make sure that the bind-in insert offers something special to keep hold of its status as the number one page in the book.

V-Fold Pop-up Gives Extra Emphasis To Your Bound-in Inserts

A bound-in insert such as a postcard that offers nothing is such a disappointment to the reader. They will be expecting something special, maybe even a free sample, so it is important that your insert offers at least a visual treat. Having arrived directly at your pop-up card, your reader will be keen to see what’s on offer. A V-fold pop-up is a simple and yet very dynamic mechanism and can be made in virtually any shape to suit your product or service and it gives a surprisingly impressive pop-up display to emphasize your marketing message.

V-Fold Bound-In Insert Specification

To create bound-in inserts we will need to know the specifications dictated by your magazine of choice in order to supply exactly what they want. Often a publisher requires samples in order to do a dummy run to make sure that the bound-in insert does not hamper their tight production schedules.
The cards themselves can be whatever size you like providing they are approved by the magazine publisher but we recommend that you base your ideas around an A5 landscape version which would open to an impressive 420 x 150mm with your pop-up in the centre.

Starburst Display Is Easy To Find As A Bound-In Insert

Bound-in inserts in a magazine mean that the reader almost always opens the magazine at the bound-in position. The heavier weight of the bound-in insert, the more likely this is to happen. That makes the A5 pop up Starburst a perfect candidate for the job as it is relatively slim but still heavy enough to create an automatic open page. That gives immediate focus to your bound-in insert

Outstanding Bound-In Display For A Double-Page Spread

Having gained the reader’s attention with your bound-in insert, the job is to hold that attention long enough for your message to sink in and there is no better way of doing that than with an A5 starburst. When the reader opens the cover of your magazine insert, it triggers an amazing transformation as the starburst opens to reveal an area equal to an A4 double-page spread. Not only that, it does so in a quite remarkable fashion as its unique folding mechanism is an attention-grabbing display in itself!

Magazine Insert Specifications Will Be Required

In order to supply the A5 Starburst in a format that the magazine can use, we will need to know the specifications for the bind-in insert and do not be surprised if the magazine’s production manager asks to see some samples in order to assess whether or not the product is suitable for your chosen publication. The magazine’s ad manager will be keen to include the product as a bound-in insert but the production manage will need to ensure that it doesn’t delay his production deadlines

Starburst Bound-In Insert Product Specification

As a bound-in insert in, the A5 closed size is the starburst that we recommend for an A4 magazine, though it can be supplied in landscape or portrait format to open outwards or upwards. The cover is printed on the outer surface only in 4 colour process on 350gsm silk board whilst the inner fold-out display is printed on 100gsm gloss art paper.
